New Ask Us Theory About

Guestmudgeon J. Jacobik laments

The use of nouns as verbs is my pet peeve. Here in Ontario, even in school board documents, the short, elegant verb confer has been replaced with the ungainly noun/verb conference, as in, "Please conference with your teacher and report." I also recently heard someone report that his group had been tasked with some assignment. OY! Nevermind the campaign to "preserve the adverb," even verbs are under attack!

Eeewww, we hate that too!

Have you seen similar gibberish in a newspaper ad or TV commercial?
