New Ask Us Theory About

curmdgeon.GIF (1254 bytes) Curmudgeons' Corner

Guestmudgeon David Teager has a beef at restaurants:

Here's my beef: restaurant waiter-speak.

"I will be your waiter this evening." (What are you doing now?)

"The chateaubriand will be marinated in red wine and roasted over new potatoes." (...even though it was cooked this afternoon; maybe I can forgive this construct for tonight's fish special.)

And last night, the waitress handed us the little menu and said: "This will be the menu of specials tonight." (Do I get a magic trick before dinner?)

Indeed!

Have you heard or read similar or equally distressing usages?

Do tell us.
