As a creative writing grad student nothing is more frustrating than reading the phrase , "I thought to myself." As opposed to what? Thinking to someone else? 

It's not merely students who use this redundancy. I hear newscasters, sportscasters and bar patrons use it frequently. 

People always think to themselves, unless of course, they're psychic.

Have you heard or read similar or equally distressing usages?
